3 Day Devotional: The Battle I Can't Talk About - Day 1

Day 1: The Battle Between Faith and Fear

Philippians 1:20
“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.”

Reflection:
Paul isn’t writing as a distant theologian — he’s writing as a man in chains, facing an uncertain future. He’s living in the tension between faith and fear.
He’s not afraid of dying as much as he’s afraid of missing the chance to glorify Christ in whatever happens next. That’s a real place — the space where you still believe God, but your body trembles anyway.

Faith says, “God’s got me.”
Fear whispers, “But what if He doesn’t?”
Faith declares, “Christ will be exalted in my body.”
Fear replies, “But my body is failing me.”

Paul doesn’t deny the fear; he brings Christ into it. That’s the move of mature faith — not pretending to be fearless, but trusting through the fear. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s Christ showing up inside it.

Prayer:
Lord, meet me in this tension between believing and trembling.
Don’t let fear write the final word — let faith do that.
Give me courage to face what I can’t control,
and strength to glorify You whether by life or by death. Amen.

Practice:
Take five quiet minutes today. Name your fear out loud — then speak Paul’s words over it: “Christ will be exalted in my body.”
