SUPPLICATION from The Father's Perspective: 3 Day Devotional

Day 1: Supplication is a Cry of Dependence

Scripture: Luke 18:1–3 (NLT)
“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. ‘There was a judge in a certain city,’ he said, ‘who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, “Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.”’”

Devotional Thought:
The widow Jesus describes had no status, no husband, and no voice in the legal system. Still, she came—again and again. Her persistence wasn’t based on her power; it flowed from her dependence. She had no other source of help. She wasn’t concerned about appearances. Her pride had no place in the face of her need.

Supplication is just that—a prayer that comes from the end of ourselves. It’s what happens when you stop pretending and start surrendering. When you’re willing to admit, “I can’t fix this,” that’s when real prayer begins. God doesn’t need our perfection—He welcomes our dependence.

Reflection Questions:
 Where in your life are you resisting full dependence on God?
 What keeps you from asking God for help repeatedly?
 What would it look like to bring your whole, unfiltered need before God in prayer?

Prayer:
Lord, I confess that I often try to manage things on my own. Today, I come to You like the
widow—needy, honest, and desperate for Your help. Teach me to lean on You more fully and to embrace the strength that comes through surrender. Amen.
