3 Day Devotional: But the Lord Stood with Me - Day 1

Day 1: The Lord's Presence in Loneliness

Scripture:
“At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them. But the Lord stood with me.”
— 2 Timothy 4:16–17a (NKJV)

Reflection:
Paul describes a moment of deep isolation—abandoned by friends, deserted by supporters, and left to face the Roman court alone. Yet in that emptiness he makes one of the strongest declarations of faith: “But the Lord stood with me.” The absence of people did not mean the absence of God. The Lord’s presence brought calm that steadied him and comfort that softened him, enabling him to forgive those who failed him. Like Jesus praying from the cross and Stephen under the stones, Paul chose mercy over bitterness. When everyone else walks away, the Lord stands close, reminding us we are never truly alone.

Application:
•Recall a time when you felt deserted but later realized God had not left you.
•Ask God to soften your heart toward those who failed you, extending forgiveness rather than bitterness.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that even when others leave, You never do. Calm my heart when I feel abandoned, and comfort me with Your Spirit. Help me forgive those who have let me down and to rest in the assurance that You are always by my side. Amen.
