Teamwork: A Lesson in Trust 3-Day Devotional

Day 2: The Blessing of Godly Wise Counsel

Scripture:
"So [Jethro] Moses' father-in-law said to him, 'The thing that you do is not good. Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.'" — Exodus 18:17–18 (NKJV)

"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." — Proverbs 11:14 (NKJV)

Reflection:
Jethro didn’t correct Moses harshly — he corrected him lovingly. Their relationship mattered.
Jethro had entrusted Moses with his daughter Zipporah and his grandchildren. He knew Moses' calling and character. Relationship gave weight and credibility to his counsel.

God often uses people who are already close to us — family members, mentors, friends — to speak truth into our lives. Listening to their wise counsel is not weakness — it is maturity.
The blessing of godly counsel is that it shields us from burnout and guides us toward endurance and peace.

Prayer Prompt:
"Father, thank You for the relationships You have given me. Help me to cherish the wise counsel of those who love me and to listen with a humble, teachable spirit."

Challenge Question:
Who in your life has earned the right to speak truth to you through relationship — and how is God calling you to listen more carefully?
